Bob Dylan celebrates his 70th birthday today, and what better occasion than that to revisit Wanda Jackson's take on the legendary songwriter's "Thunder on the Mountain," as heard on her new, Jack White-produced album, The Party Ain't Over. Dylan himself, who once described Jackson as "an atomic bomb with lipstick," had suggested Jackson record the song, and it paid off with what HitFix called a "motorcyle-movie nasty" rendition of the tune. Jackson's connection with Dylan goes further, as he was among the many high-profile artists, like Elvis Costello and Bruce Springsteen, who encouraged the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to induct Jackson into its ranks, which it did in 2009.
The Queen of Rockabilly has three more headlining dates on the current leg of her tour, with Holly Golightly and the Broke-Offs opening, before she joins Adele for nearly a dozen sold-out shows in the coming weeks. Jackson performs at the Revolution Music Room in Little Rock on Wednesday and the Bijou Theatre in Knoxville on Friday, with a memorable stop in between: on Thursday, she performs at Minglewood Hall in Memphis, the hometown of another musical legend, her former boyfriend, Elvis Presley.
