James Farm kicked off its four-night residency at New York's Jazz Standard last night with two stellar sets featuring songs from their self-titled debut album. The band stopped by WNYC's Soundcheck earlier this week to discuss and perform songs off the new record. James Farm—the collaborative band featuring saxophonist Joshua Redman, pianist Aaron Parks, bassist Matt Penman, and drummer Eric Harland—kicked off its four-night residency at the Jazz Standard in New York City last night with two stellar sets featuring songs from their self-titled debut album, recently released on Nonesuch Records. The quartet continues its run through the weekend, with two performances each weekend night.
Before kicking off the concerts, all four members of the band stopped by the studios of New York NPR member station WNYC on Wednesday as guests on Soundcheck to discuss the shows and the new album with host John Schaefer and perform songs off the record: "Polliwog," written by Joshua Redman, and "Coax," written by Matt Penman.
