Björk's new album, Biophilia, is due out on CD next week, on October 11 in North America via One Little Indian / Nonesuch Records. Also available then is the complete Biophilia App suite for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch, available in the iTunes App Store. The vinyl album will now release two weeks later in North America, on October 24.

The Guardian gives the album four stars. Despite the immensity of the project and its multi-media dimensions, the music on the album stands on its own, suggests reviewer Alexis Petridis.
"Though it's exquisitely controlled and filled with space where its predecessor Volta was packed to bursting with sound, Biophilia still teems with invention," Petridis writes. "For an album that presents itself as an academic exercise, it's big on moments of pure, indulgent pleasure."
The quality of the album itself goes to "underline how far apart from the rest of rock and pop Björk is, regardless of how it was delivered."

Drowned in Sound, which has featured a five-part interview series with Björk all week, rates Biophilia an eight out of ten.
"Biophilia carves out brave new territory for an artist who’s been colonising the fringes of music all her career, fragile and demanding, at times uncomfortable but always fascinating," writes reviewer Christian Cottingham. Echoing Petridis's on the primacy of the music over all else, Cottingham concludes: "Whatever happens with the technology and wherever the arguments over music, art and commerce drag themselves to next, it’s these songs that are the triumph here."

Back in North America, where the album is out on Tuesday, the San Jose Mercury News has published a review from Palo Alto Daily News staff writer Kevin Kelly, who says that Björk has "outdone herself" on Biophilia. "Given all the blueprints needed to bring Biophilia to life, its passion thankfully shines clearly through," writes Kelly. "Her voice has never sounded better than it does now, often employing a new feline snarl on the tails of utterances. It gives the album a primal feeling despite all the modern conveniences involved."
