Stephen Sondheim spoke with playwright Tony Kushner at New York's Public Theater last fall, upon the publication of Finishing the Hat, Sondheim's first-ever collected lyrics. The evening, part of the Public Theater's Public Form discussion series, was hosted by NEA chairman Rocco Landesman. You can now watch excerpts from the event in a new video from the Public, posted here. Sondheim will receive the Olivier Special Award in London this Sunday.

Stephen Sondheim appeared on stage at the Public Theater in New York City last fall to talk with a fellow giant in the American theater, Tony Kushner, upon the publication of the book Finishing the Hat, Sondheim's first-ever collection of his lyrics. The evening, part of the Public Theater's Public Form discussion series, took place on November 29, 2010, and was hosted by Rocco Landesman, the chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts. You can now watch excerpts from the event in a new video from the Public, posted below.

As noted earlier this week in the Nonesuch Journal, Stephen Sondheim will receive the Olivier Special Award, in recognition of his contribution to London theatre, at the 2011 Olivier Awards ceremony, taking place this Sunday at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London; the ceremony will conclude with a tribute to Sondheim. The whole evening will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 2; there will be live televised coverage via the BBC’s Red Button. For more information, you can read about it in the Nonesuch Journal.

    Congratulations to Kronos Quartet, whose acclaimed 1992 Nonesuch album Pieces of Africa has been named one of twenty-five recordings to be inducted into the National Recording Registry at the Library of Congress for 2024. "It planted a seed for our work," Kronos founder and violinist David Harrington says of the album. "It's flowered so beautifully."
