During a recent tour stop in NYC, the band performed three songs off the album live on WNYC's Soundcheck and spoke with host John Schaefer about the new album. Listen to the show and watch the performance of "Boodle-De-Bum-Bum" here. Glide gives the album four stars: "On Leaving Eden, Carolina Chocolate Drops move music forward, paying homage to the past while remaining rooted in the present. Carolina Chocolate Drops are on tour in North America, performing music from their new album, Leaving Eden, produced by Buddy Miller and released just last week on Nonesuch Records (due out on vinyl March 20). The band is currently in New England, where they performed in Boston and Fall River, Massachusetts, over the weekend and head next to Connecticut and Maine this week.

Glide magazine, out of Boston, gives Leaving Eden album four stars. Reviewer Sheryl Hunter credits producer Buddy Miller with giving the album "a refreshingly warm sound" and "capturing the energy and enthusiasm that the Carolina Chocolate Drops display in their live shows." Hunter concludes: "On Leaving Eden, Carolina Chocolate Drops move music forward, paying homage to the past while remaining rooted in the present. The result is a thoroughly enjoyable work that challenges our definition of string band music." Read the review at glidemagazine.com.

Prior to heading up to New England, the Chocolate Drops performed at Pace University's Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts in New York City Friday night. While in the City, the band stopped by the studios of NPR member station WNYC as guests on Soundcheck, where they spoke with host John Schaefer about the new album. They also performed three songs off the album—"Riro's House," "Country Girl," and "Boodle-De-Bum-Bum"—live in the studio. You can listen to the visit here:

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel puts Leaving Eden in its CD Spotlight. "Musicians who delve into old-fashioned traditions (bluegrass, early jazz, etc.) frequently come off as hidebound purveyors of dusty authenticity and by-the-book purism," writes the paper's Jon M. Gilbertson. "Carolina Chocolate Drops, by colorful contrast, blow away the dust and rip out whatever pages suit them while they party like it's 1929." The Chocolate Drops, he concludes, "remind listeners that their theoretically archaic Americana is, in reality, quite lively and current when it gets the chance to strut, weep, brood and dance."
