"This show is a place, has been one of America’s most consistent sources of good things for 40 years. And I feel like it’s imperative that it continue." Mike Olson of Lake Street Dive, which was a musical guest on Thile's first show as host, tells PBS: "The desire to have a vinyl record and the desire to listen to a variety show and these kinds of things goes beyond nostalgia. Chris Thile was featured on PBS NewsHour this past Friday, just ahead of his second episode as host of A Prairie Home Companion. NewsHour's Jeffrey Brown had visited its home at the Fitzgerald Theater in Saint Paul, Minnesota, the week before, for Thile's debut as host, to discuss the show, what makes it special, and what he brings to it.

Thile's Nonesuch label mates Lake Street Dive were musical guests on that first episode. Two members of the band, Rachael Price and Mike Olson, spoke with Brown as well about the show and Thile's role in keeping it special.
