"Taurobolium," the closing track to Devendra's Banhart's recently released Nonesuch Records debut album, Mala, has inspired animator and director Galen Pehrson to create a new, animated short film titled Mondo Taurobolium. The film's lead characters, Mondo and Gale, are portrayed by Banhart and Rose McGowan, respectively. Mala was released to critical acclaim, with Pitchfork calling it "Banhart's best record in nearly a decade." The album received four-star reviews from, among others, Mojo, Q, the Times of London, and the Guardian, which called it a "triumph." Under the Radar concludes: "He's a singularly idiosyncratic and brilliant songwriter, one hitting an arresting stride on this uniformly superb album."

Devendra Banhart recently concluded a three-week tour of Latin America performing music from the new album. His next scheduled shows are in April 2014, when he performs at the Byron Bay Bluesfest and two sideshows at the Factory Theatre in Sydney and Prince Bandroom in Melbourne.
