Emmylou Harris, who is currently touring North America performing songs from her latest album, Hard Bargain, and throughout her storied career in music, was recently featured on the Today show, discussing her other great passion: Bonaparte's Retreat, the non-profit dog rescue she founded out of her home in Nashville, Tennessee. She talks with NBC's Jill Rappaport from her home and introduces viewers to her own rescue dog Bella. Harris plays a bit of the song she wrote about Bella, "Big Black Dog," which appears on Hard Bargain. Watch the complete Today show story below.

"Currently she has 29 dogs in her program, and 10 right in her backyard," Rappaport reports. "If that's not enough to keep her busy, she also has another pet project in the works called 'Crossroads Campus,' which pairs people with animals in need, providing emotional and financial support for both."

Harris performs next with her band the Red Dirt Boys, appropriately enough, at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado, next Wednesday, July 18. It's a special triple bill with Steve Martin & the Steep Canyon Rangers and Arlo Guthrie. It's the start of a stretch of dates out West through the end of the month, which also includes stops in Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and Montana.
