The Black Keys performed a special rendition of their hit single “Gold on the Ceiling,” at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards last night in honor of the actor/musician Johnny Depp, who joined the band on guitar for the performance before receiving the MTV Generation Award, the MTV Movie Awards' highest honor, from Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry. The Black Keys performed a special rendition of their hit single “Gold on the Ceiling,” off their latest Nonesuch album, El Camino, at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards last night in honor of Johnny Depp. The actor/musician joined the band on guitar for the performance before receiving the MTV Generation Award, the MTV Movie Awards' highest honor, from Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry. Hosted by comedian/actor Russell Brand, the awards aired live from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California, last night and will air again throughout the week. The Black Keys head back on the road in July for more North American arena shows and to headline a number of summer festivals in North America and Europe, starting with the Firefly Festival in Dover, Delaware, the weekend of July 20, followed by the inaugural Catalpa Festival on New York's Randall's Island July 28. "It planted a seed for our work," Kronos founder and violinist David Harrington says of the album. "It's flowered so beautifully."
