Timothy Andres's I Found It by the Sea was featured in the closing-night concert of the Look and Listen Festival in NYC this week, performed with ACME. Composer/pianist Timothy Andres's 2007 piano quartet I Found It by the Sea was featured in the closing-night concert of the Look and Listen Festival at the Pratt Manhattan Gallery in New York City earlier this week, performed with the American Contemporary Music Ensemble (ACME). The piece "is a set of variations that draws on a huge range of styles," writes New York Times music critic Allan Kozinn in his review of the festival: "you hear long-lined Elgarian Romanticism, a hint of Brahms, insistently Minimalist figures and ample invention of his own. Last Friday, Andres offered a special opening set in the Brad Mehldau Trio show at the Newman Center for the Performing Arts in Denver. He performs a solo recital at (Le) Poisson Rouge in New York City on May 29, featuring his own work and music by Brahms, Schumann, Ingram Marshall, and Ted Hearne, and joins mezzo-soprano Rachel Calloway for the Project Shaw concert at New York's Players Club on June 2. Andres makes his London debut in a concert at Wigmore Hall on June 8, launching the venue's latest summer Late Night series.
