Wigmore Hall, the venerated London venue, has announced the first group of concerts that Brad Mehldau has programmed as artistic director of an annual, two-season jazz series there during the 2009–10 and the 2010–11 seasons.

Mehldau will appear in at least two of the annual concerts he will oversee at the venue, continuing the Wigmore Hall tradition of hosting a small number of annual acoustic jazz events each year. Six events have already been scheduled for the 2009–10 season and are available for purchase at wigmore-hall.org.uk: two solo events on April 9, 2009, and June 4, 2010; a duo concert with label mate Joshua Redman on October 15, 2009; a Brad Mehldau Trio concert the following night; and a recital with mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter, with whom he will premiere Mehldau's Love Songs tomorrow night at Carnegie Hall in New York.

"Brad Mehldau is steeped in the classical music tradition and is one of the most fluid and inventive musicians that I have ever encountered," says the Hall's director, John Gilhooly. "We are very pleased and excited to welcome him to Wigmore Hall."

"London audiences are among the most well informed and adventurous as I have seen anywhere, so it will be a distinct pleasure to curate these programs.
