Wolf Trap, the National Park for the Performing Arts outside of Washington, DC, has announced is 2011 Summer Season. Included among the performers this summer at the Filene Center, Wolf Trap's outdoor amphitheater, are k.d. lang, Punch Brothers, and Gipsy Kings. The season will also include a performance of Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd by the Wolf Trap Opera Company. Tickets go on sale to the general public on March 12.

Wolf Trap, the National Park for the Performing Arts in Vienna, Virginia, outside of Washington, DC, has announced is 2011 Summer Season. Included among the performers this summer at the Filene Center, Wolf Trap's beautiful outdoor amphitheater, are a few artists familiar to readers of the Nonesuch Journal: k.d. lang, Punch Brothers, and Gipsy Kings. The season will also include a performance of Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd by the Wolf Trap Opera Company.

k.d. lang is scheduled to perform at the Filene center on July 6. Her latest Nonesuch album, Sing it Loud, made with the Siss Boom Bang, is due out April 12. It's her first record made entirely with a band of her own since the pair of albums with the Reclines that launched her career over 20 years ago. It's also available now for pre-order in the Nonesuch Store with a manuscript lyric sheet of the song "I Confess," a limited number of which will be signed by k.d. An expanded, 14-track version is available at kdlang.com.

Punch Brothers, who perform three shows in Colorado this weekend, have added an August 28 performance at Wolf Trap to their already busy tour schedule. Also on the bill that night are Bruce Hornsby & the Noisemakers. Punch Brothers are up for two Grammy Awards this Sunday, including Best Country Instrumental Performance on the tune "New Chance Blues," the bonus track on the digital deluxe edition of their latest Nonesuch release, Antifogmatic, at Amazon.com.

On July 22, the Wolf Trap Opera Company will give a fully staged performance of Stephen Sondheim's beloved 1979 musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, featuring the National Symphony Orchestra and conductor James Moore. Nonesuch has released two recordings of this Sondheim classic: the soundtrack to the 2007 Tim Burton film, starring Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, and the cast recording to the 2006 Broadway revival, starring Michael Cerveris and Patti LuPone.

The Gipsy Kings perform two nights, August 19 and 20. Their last Nonesuch album was 2007's Pasajero.
