nothingDavid Byrne and the original cast of Here Lies Love will perform a one-time only special benefit concert in support of the people of the Philippines in the wake of Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan). The special show will take place at Terminal 5 in NYC on November 25. All proceeds will go to support Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) relief efforts in the Philippines. “The show is about the resiliency of the Philippine people—it couldn’t be more timely,” says Byrne. “Upon hearing about this tragedy the cast contacted me about doing a show to raise money for relief efforts. Most of our cast is Filipino, and all of us feel the same way. It’s personal for all of us."

nothingDavid Byrne and Fatboy Slim have won the Village Voice Obie Award for Music/Lyrics for Here Lies Love; the ceremony was held at Webster Hall in New York on Monday and featured a performance from the cast. Here Lies Love has also won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding New Off-Broadway Musical, which will be presented tomorrow at Sardi's. The musical, which opened at the Public Theater in April, has now been extended a fourth and final time to run through July 28. nothingIn 2004, Caetano Veloso curated a week of special concerts at Carnegie Hall and invited his longtime friend and collaborator David Byrne to join him for the show captured on the new album Caetano Veloso & David Byrne: Live at Carnegie Hall. "Respected songwriters who for the last four decades have in similar ways chronicled their respective cultures, the pair trade stripped-down renditions of some of their classics on this live document and in doing so offer borderless bliss," says the Los Angeles Times. Citing Veloso's take on Byrne's "(Nothing but) Flowers," the Times concludes: "Such joy is evident throughout Live at Carnegie Hall.” MOJO gives the album four stars.

nothingDavid Byrne, whose album with Caetano Veloso Live at Carnegie Hall was released last week, has unveiled Get It Away, a new soundwork he created while living in A Room for London, a one-bedroom riverboat installation atop the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, last month. "I brought along some field recording gear to use while I was staying in the lovely pod/room/boat," Byrne explains. "I went out during the day and recorded sounds that I thought might be useful and evocative." Watch Get It Away here.

He invited his longtime friend and collaborator David Byrne to join him for an evening. The concert was recorded for broadcast on NPR and now will be released by Nonesuch as Caetano Veloso and David Byrne: Live at Carnegie Hall on March 13. The singer/guitarists each performed an acoustic set of their own songs and also performed together. nothingLaurie Anderson, Amadou & Mariam, and David Byrne will be among the artists performing in a riverboat lodged atop London's Queen Elizabeth Hall as part of the Sounds from a Room series taking place in A Room for London, a one-bedroom installation on the roof of the Hall. Sounds from a Room includes live music webcasts from Anderson and Amadou & Mariam and a new soundwork for podcast from Byrne. The program is part of the London 2012 Festival, which also includes performances by Kronos Quartet and Rokia Traoré.
