Mountain Man, whose new album, Magic Ship, is due September 21, has shared the official video for the album track "Rang Tang Ring Toon." The video was directed by D.L. Anderson and filmed in Orange County, NC. Watch it here. Download the song and two other album tracks, "Window" and "Stella," now when you pre-order Magic Ship.

Gabriel Kahane was on NPR's All Things Considered. He spoke with host Ari Shapiro about his new album, Book of Travelers, and performed from it. "It's a plea for empathy," Kahane says. "I think songwriting is a way to deliver that message. I think empathy is one of the primary currencies of any type of storytelling and songwriting is no exception to that." Mandy Patinkin, who released the first in a series of musical installments with pianist/producer Thomas Bartlett, Diary: January 27, 2018, in April, will perform music from the series with pianist Adam Ben David on the Diaries 2018 tour, starting with a nine-concert run in NYC's East Village in October. The tour heads west in November for performances in Palo Alto and Honolulu, then to Australia for shows in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane. "Singing onstage is one of the great joys of my life," says Patinkin, "so I'm back on the boards."

Composer, pianist, and singer Gabriel Kahane's Nonesuch Records debut album, Book of Travelers, is out now. It comprises his musical travelogue about the looping railway journey across the US he embarked upon the day after the 2016 election. He left behind his cell phone and other internet-connected devices, spending the next two weeks with dozens of strangers whose stories are woven into the cycle. "[An] articulate, musically far-reaching travelogue," says Uncut. "Exquisitely crafted songs … Musically fascinating and hauntingly empathetic." Kahane begins a tour on September 7, when the album is out on vinyl.

Thomas Bartlett and Nico Muhly's Peter Pears: Ceremonial Music Remixes is out now on Nonesuch. It includes reimagined versions of two tracks from their album Peter Pears: Balinese Ceremonial Music: "Balthasar" remixed by E*vax (of Ratatat) and "Eusebius" remixed by Kid Koala. Drowned in Sound called the album "exceptional ... simultaneously tense and light, dramatic and calming, an originality which few albums can fully lay claim to."

Olivia Chaney closes out her US summer tour in Los Angeles tonight. She performs songs from her new album, Shelter, as she did at Hoxton Hall in London back in June when the album was released. Rhiannon Giddens's program as a performer at and guest curator of the 2018 North Carolina Folk Festival has been announced. The free event takes place in her hometown of Greensboro, September 7–9. Giddens's program includes a performance and discussion with public school students; an evening of jazz, spoken word, and tap dance; a symposium and a workshop on banjo cultures and traditions; a performance on the roots of American dance; a concert of songs from Giddens's Nonesuch albums; and more.
