The Civil War, the five-part film by Ken Burns, deemed one of the most popular offering ever presented on public television, is airing anew on PBS stations across the US this week. Nonesuch released the official soundtrack recording to the film back during its original run in 1990; it went on to win the Grammy Award for Best Traditional Folk Album. Featuring traditional American music ranging from brass bands to gospel choirs, “the music in The Civil War achieves an eloquence parallel to that of the narration," wrote GQ, "and it reinforces the visual illusion of aching, coming-to-life immediacy."

Pat Metheny and his Orchestrion will be the subject of a profile on CBS Sunday Morning this weekend. On the show, the guitarist-composer will give a behind-the-scenes look at the Orchestrion, the one-man band featured on his latest Nonesuch release, and explain the inner workings of the cutting-edge instruments and performance methods he used on the album and on tour. Metheny will also discuss his personal inspiration for the project.

Sing it Loud, the new album from k.d. lang and the Siss Boom Bang, was released earlier today in Australia, and lang and the band celebrated with a number of early morning TV appearances there. They kicked things off with a performance on Sunrise, offering their own take on an Aussie classic: the Little River Band's hit "Reminiscing," which you can watch here. That was followed by interviews on Today and One Plus One, with a Weekend Sunrise performance to come this weekend.

k.d. lang and the Siss Boom Bang are heading Down Under this week to celebrate this Friday's Australian release of their new album, Sing it Loud, due out in North America on April 12. Fans in Australia can catch lang and the band on TV starting release day and throughout April. They'll be able to watch them live in concert later this year on k.d. lang and the Siss Boom Bang's just-announced tour of Australia this November. Wanda Jackson celebrated the release of her new Jack White-produced album, The Party Ain't Over, in January with a performance of "Funnel of Love" with White on Conan; the episode re-airs tonight. The Smithsonian Channel airs The Sweet Lady with the Nasty Voice, a documentary that looks at the Queen of Rock's groundbreaking career, on Friday. Jackson kicked off her spring tour in Chicago, after which, says the Chicago Tribune, "there was no question that Her Highness still rules."

k.d. lang and the Siss Boom Bang will perform “I Confess,” from their album Sing it Loud on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on April 11, the eve of the record's release. Appearances are also confirmed for Good Morning America and The View. lang and the band will perform Sing it Loud in its entirety at sold-out shows in LA and NYC that week and will kick off an extensive North American tour in June. On March 29, Amazon.com will kick off a countdown leading up to the album’s release, streaming a new track each day.

Laurie Anderson's recent performance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon will be rebroadcast tonight on NBC. She performed an excerpt of "Another Day in America," off her album Homeland, with her male alter ego, Fenway Bergamot, contributing vocals. Prefix, in a recap of the performance, says: "Anderson’s command of drama is still palpable. Respek!" She speaks about her work with Robert Storr, dean of the Yale University School of Art, at New York's 92nd Street Y tonight.

Wanda Jackson will perform at Rachael Ray's Feedback Party at the SXSW Music Festival in Austin next Saturday, March 19. She is the latest Nonesuch artist to join the SXSW line-up, joining Emmylou Harris and Jessica Lea Mayfield. Jackson comes in at No. 1 on the Prefix list celebrating "some of our personal favorite frontwomen, singers, songwriters, and icons" on International Women's Day. This Saturday, she will be featured on CMT's Insider.

Jessica Lea Mayfield was the musical guest on the Late Show with David Letterman Friday night, marking her network television debut. She performed "Our Hearts Are Wrong," off her Nonesuch debut album, Tell Me. "That was great," Letterman said. "I enjoyed that considerably." To that, Paul Shaffer added: "I loved it." Watch the performance here. Mayfield is in the UK this week, where she can be heard on BBC Radio 6 on Wednesday and seen live at Fopp in London on Thursday.

Jessica Lea Mayfield will be the musical guest on the Late Show with David Letterman tonight, performing "Our Hearts Are Wrong," off her Nonesuch debut album, Tell Me. Also on tonight's show are Glee's Matthew Morrison and comedian Jeff Altman. Mayfield is set to tour Europe in May and June, following her US tour. The tour begins in Belgium on May 27 and includes concerts in Ireland, UK, France, Germany, and Holland.

Congratulations to Allen Toussaint: he will be among the newest members inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in a ceremony on June 16 in New York City. Toussaint's debut appearance on Austin City Limits, which first aired last year and featured songs from his Nonesuch debut album, The Bright Mississippi, will be rebroadcast on PBS stations across the US this weekend.
