The Black Keys have secured the No. 1 Current Rock Album and No. 1 Current Alternative Album in US sales following the release of their new album, Ohio Players, last week. The album also is the highest debut of the week on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums Chart and Top Alternative Albums Chart, at No. 5 on both charts, and has reached No. 4 on Overall Current Album sales and No. 26 on the Billboard 200. Internationally, Ohio Players is the band’s sixth consecutive top 20 album in the UK, as well as top 20 in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Netherlands, New Zealand, and Switzerland, among others.

Bill Frisell's classic album Nashville, first released on Nonesuch Records in 1997, will receive its first worldwide vinyl release on November 23, 2018. The vinyl edition, made in partnership with Run Out Groove, was mastered for vinyl by Greg Calbi at Sterling Sound in a two-LP set pressed on 180g vinyl at Record Industry in the Netherlands. The set comes in a gatefold tip-on jacket made at Stoughton Printing with outtake photos from the sessions. Limited to 3,000 copies worldwide, the Nashville vinyl edition is available to pre-order now.

Punch Brothers returned to Conan on TBS as musical guests, performing "It's All Part of the Plan" from their new album, All Ashore. Watch it here. The band's big summer tour resumes in Washington, DC, on September 6, and culminates at Red Rocks Amphitheater on September 17. The European tour is in November.

Gabriel Kahane was on NPR's All Things Considered. He spoke with host Ari Shapiro about his new album, Book of Travelers, and performed from it. "It's a plea for empathy," Kahane says. "I think songwriting is a way to deliver that message. I think empathy is one of the primary currencies of any type of storytelling and songwriting is no exception to that." Mandy Patinkin, who released the first in a series of musical installments with pianist/producer Thomas Bartlett, Diary: January 27, 2018, in April, will perform music from the series with pianist Adam Ben David on the Diaries 2018 tour, starting with a nine-concert run in NYC's East Village in October. The tour heads west in November for performances in Palo Alto and Honolulu, then to Australia for shows in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane. "Singing onstage is one of the great joys of my life," says Patinkin, "so I'm back on the boards."

Composer, pianist, and singer Gabriel Kahane's Nonesuch Records debut album, Book of Travelers, is out now. It comprises his musical travelogue about the looping railway journey across the US he embarked upon the day after the 2016 election. He left behind his cell phone and other internet-connected devices, spending the next two weeks with dozens of strangers whose stories are woven into the cycle. "[An] articulate, musically far-reaching travelogue," says Uncut. "Exquisitely crafted songs … Musically fascinating and hauntingly empathetic." Kahane begins a tour on September 7, when the album is out on vinyl.

David Byrne and Punch Brothers take their tours to Southern California this weekend: Byrne's American Utopia is in Santa Barbara and Los Angeles, and Punch Brothers' All Ashore is in Los Angeles and San Diego. Across the country, Timo Andres gives a two-piano concert with David Kaplan at the Ravinia Festival outside Chicago.
